Apple Blasts Judge's iPhone Backdoor Order
Apple CEO Tim Cook has blasted a U.S. federal judge's Feb. 16 order compelling Apple to help bypass the encryption on an iPhone 5C seized by the FBI. Cook says Apple will oppose the "dangerous" order, and he's called for a vigorous, public debate on the subject.

Obama Signs Cyberthreat Information Sharing Bill
On Dec. 18, both houses of Congress enacted the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act, which is part of a 2,009-page $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill (see page 1,729). CISA will establish a process for the government to share cyberthreat information with businesses that voluntarily agree to participate in the program.

Agreement on Commission's EU data protection reform Press Release December 15th, 2015.
The European Commission put forward its EU Data Protection Reform in January 2012 to make Europe fit for the digital age (IP/12/46). Today, an agreement was found with the European Parliament and the Council, following final negotiations between the three institutions (so-called 'trilogue' meetings).
